← Back to lettersDear Sirs,
The purpose of this letter is to obtain information very important to me, which would be communicated to me and provide clues for my investigation.
During the years 1952 and onwards, in a building located at 18 Mayor Street in Albacete (building now destroyed and replaced by a recent construction), which belonged to Mrs. Margarita Ruiz de Lihori y Rosino, who held a noble title: Baroness of Alcahali, wife of Mr. Shelly, both deceased, two gentlemen doctors by profession, Danish nationals, were hosted there by this lady for an undetermined number of months.
During that time, Lady Margarita resided in another town, and they occupied some rooms in the aforementioned building, living a very secluded life although some neighbors were aware of their existence, as they only left the residence at night, and I was able to obtain very little information.
I learned that the sons of Mrs. Margarita Ruiz de Lihori did not know their names because their mother did not inform them of the stay and the histological experiments of these scientists.
Another point, although doubtful, reports that at least one of these gentlemen traveled secretly to Madrid when this lady’s daughter, Mrs. Margot Shelly, was transported severely ill to the capital of Spain.
In any case, these men of science abandoned Albacete before the judge (Spanish) ordered the search and seizure of the building.
The purpose of my request is to know the residence of these doctors, either in Denmark or in Spain, to obtain additional information about the important studies of animal physiology conducted by them.
I am willing to offer a reward of $1,000 (one thousand dollars) — 69,000 pesetas — to anyone who provides sufficient information to locate these doctors in the possible case that some resident of Mayor Street might know them.
Please accept my attentive regards.
